Worcester, Mass. – October 9, 2010 – Goals from Ashley McFarlane and Brittany Collins proved to be the difference as the Springfield College women’s soccer team picked up a 2-0 win on the road at WPI on Saturday afternoon in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.

With the win, the Pride are now 8-4 on the season and 4-1 in conference play while the Engineers slip to 3-8-1 overall and 1-4 in NEWMAC action.

Springfield came out early and took 11 of the gameÂ's first 12 shots but were repelled by several strong saves by WPI goalkeeper Maddie Willer and an important play by Engineer back Nikole Jordan, who cleared a ball off the line in the 13th minute.  The Pride broke up the scoreless game at 34:15 on a McFarlane header from six yards out after a cross by Erica Donnelly.  The marker was the second of the season for the sophomore.

  The second half saw each team attempt four shots and remained 1-0 until late in the contest.  Springfield added an insurance tally at 86:19 when Collins collected a feed by Jen Courossi 15 yards away from the center of the goal and deposited her fifth goal of the year into the top right corner.          

  Springfield netminder Erin Greenstein and Willer each ended the game with five saves.  The visitors outshot the Engineers 15-6 on the day and enjoyed a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.  Six different players accounted for the WPI shots, five of which were on net.     

Springfield will next play a non-conference game at RPI on Wednesday afternoon at 7:30 pm.
