Providence, R.I. – September 10, 2011 – Senior Lauren Torvi was named the Most Valuable Player as she led the Springfield College women’s volleyball team to the 2011 Johnson and Wales Invitational title on Saturday afternoon.
The Pride improved to 8-0 this season under first year head head coach Moira Long and have won both of their tournaments to start the season.
Springfield started off the day by sweeping Connecticut College, 25-17, 25-12, 25-18. The Pride then handled host Johnson and Wales, 25-12, 25-13, 25-18, before downing Bridgewater State, 25-6, 25-13, 25-13.
Torvi was joined by teammate Molly Giannattasio on the All-Tournament team as the duo had a standout weekend. Torvi tallied 18 kills and five blocks, while Giannattasio handed out 33 assists against Conn. College, before Torvi posted 13 kills and Giannattasio delivered 23 assists versus JWU. In their final match of the weekend, Torvi registered 15 kills and five blocks and Whitney Miller was credited with 23 assists against Brigewater State.
