Springfield, Mass. – April 11, 2012 – Sophomore goalie Anne Versprille posted 14 saves but it wasn’t enough against the nation’s third-ranked team as Trinity College bested Springfield College, 12-6, in non-conference women’s lacrosse action on Stagg Field Wednesday.

The Bantams improved to a perfect 10-0, while the Pride drop to 6-7.

Jackie Moscardelli led Springfield with three goals on the afternoon, while Allie Davis tallied a goal and an assist. Brittany LeGuelaff snagged five draw controls and Jennnifer Thomas caused two turnovers.

Hadley Duncan posted a game-high five goals, and Caite Irvine scored three goals in the opening half. Liz Bruno notched four draw controls, while Caroline Hayed had four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Olivia Whitney needed to make just three saves to earn the win.

Trinity outshot Springfield, 33-12, while the Pride committed 26 turnovers compared to the Bantams’ 11.

The visitors opened up with three straight unassisted markers, including two by Irvine, to take a 3-0 lead 6:23 into the contest. Moscardelli finally connected for the Pride at the 22:41 mark to make it a 3-1 contest.

Duncan answered back with a free-position goal, only to have Davis make it a two-goal game once again after she split a pair of defenders and found the bottom corner with 15:26 to play.

The Bantams closed out the half with three unanswered goals with Irvine, Hayes, and Duncan each scoring to make it 7-2 after 30 minutes of play.

Duncan wasted little time in the second half, finding the back of the cage 11 seconds in. Moscardelli finished a Davis feed with just over 20 minutes left in regulation before Trinity put together three-straight goals to earn an 11-3 advantage at the 9:46 mark.

Springfield pushed back with goals from Kelly Gallo and Moscardelli 36 seconds apart to get within six with 4:07 remaining, but it proved too little too late. Trinity’s Kaitlin Reedy and Springfield’s Emily Rodgers traded goals down the stretch to complete the scoring.

Springfield will resume action on Saturday when it hosts conference-foe MIT at 1:00 pm.
