Springfield, Mass. – April 14, 2012 – The Springfield College women’s lacrosse team scored the first 13 goals of the game as it eased past MIT, 13-2, on Stagg Field Saturday in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
The Pride is now 7-7, 3-1 in league action while the Engineers drop to 2-12, 0-4.
Kelly Gallo finished with a game-high five points on two goals and three assists, while Jackie Moscardelli added three goals, three caused turnovers, and an assist. Meghan Flanagan also scored three goals and snagged five draw controls in the win. Anne Versprille continued her consistent play between the pipes, making 11 saves and limiting the Engineers to just two goals.
Katie Kauffman scored a goal and picked up three ground balls, and Meghan Wright added the other MIT score. Sarah Ritter posted 12 saves in the loss.
Springfield outshot the visitors 31-17 for the game, including by a 20-8 margin in the first half.
Flanagan started the scoring at the 28:39 mark on an unassisted strike, opening up the PrideÂ's seven-goal run in the first 7:55 of the contest. Both her and Moscardelli scored twice in the first half, while Gallo added a goal and three assists.
The Pride held an 8-0 lead at the half and scored the opening five goals of the second stanza to lead 13-0 with 11:29 left following a Brittany LeGuelaff free-position goal. Kauffman finally scored the visitors first goal of the day with 7:41 on the clock and Wright tacked on an unassisted goal with 1:15 remaining.
Springfield will hit the road on Tuesday for another league game at Smith College beginning at 5:00 pm.
