Moscardelli's Six Goals Lead Women's Lacrosse Past Smith, 21-8

Northampton, Mass. – April 17, 2012 – Senior Jackie Moscardelli registered seven points to lead the Springfield College women’s lacrosse team to a 21-7 win over Smith College on Tuesday afternoon in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) meeting.

The Pioneers are now 7-7 overall, and 2-4 in the NEWMAC, while Springfield is 8-7, and 4-1 in NEWMAC play.

Meaghan Fileti grabbed the first goal of the game for Smith, whipping in a shot with just 20 seconds played. Allie Davis and Meghan Flanagan put the Pride up 2-1, but Becky Bracken’s first goal of the day tied the score at two with 25:01 on the clock.

Another goal from Flanagan gave Springfield the lead for good, and the Pride upped the lead to 4-2 via the stick of Kerstin Lindoorth. Jenny Estes’ free position goal got Smith back within one at 4-3, but the Pride pulled away, finished the half on a 9-2 burst fueled by three goals from Moscardelli to go into halftime up 13-5.

Kelly Gallo scored the first goal of the second half for Springfield, who netted five of the first six goals and never allowed Smith with in 11.

Moscardelli tied her career high in both points (7) and goals (6), both of which she set last season. All told, Springfield had 11 different players score a goal. In addition to Becky Bracken’s three tallies, Estes also scored three times and Fileti netted twice.

Springfield will entertain NEWMAC foe Mount Holyoke on April 21 at noon.
