Women's Volleyball Rebounds With Sweeps of Westfield State and Plymouth State

Springfield, Mass. – October 12, 2013 – The Springfield College womenÂ's volleyball team earned a 3-0 win over Westfield State on Saturday at the Tom Hay Invitational in Blake Arena. Both Kelsey McGayhey (Shelter Island, N.Y.) and Lauren Holt (Granby, Conn.) were named to the all-tournament team.

Tessa Smolinski (Hebron, Conn.) led the Pride with a match-high 10 kills, hitting .6667 to go along with five digs. Kelsey McGayhey (Shelter Island, N.Y.) added eight kills at a .600 clip and Amanda Palladino (Cheshire, Conn.) and Daniella Crismani (San Francisco, Calif.) each added six kills.

  Whitney Miller (Cuba, N.Y.) dished out 24 assists in the PrideÂ's 15th win of the season. Springfield improves to 15-2 while Westfield State drops to 11-11. McGayhey and Lauren Holt (Granby, Conn.) each picked up two block assists, while Holt also had a solo block. Amy Entel (Berkley, Mass.) made a huge impact from the service line, totaling seven aces.

  Westfield was led by Julia Warner with a team-high six kills. Lindsay Rescott and Casey Howe added three kills apiece. Carolyn Cote tallied 10 assists for the Owls.

In the victory over the Panthers, Smolinski totaled a match-best 11 kills, while Palladino had a strong showing with eight kills on a .438 hitting percentage to go along with three blocks. Crismani notched 11 digs and seven kills, and Miller was credited with 30 assists, seven digs, and four kills. For the match, the Pride hit .382, including an impressive .533 clip in the first set.

Plymouth State’s Jana Nieman and Kaitlyn Coon each tallied five kills in the loss, as the Panthers were held to just a .035 hitting percentage on the afternoon.
