Marakovits Tosses Complete-Game Shutout In 1-0 Win Over Keene State

Box Score

Springfield, Mass. – April 30, 2013 – In his final collegiate game, Greg Marakovits hurled a complete-game shutout as the Springfield College baseball team defeated Keene State, 1-0, at Berry-Allen Field.

Springfield wrapped up its season with a 14-18 record, while the Owls record now stands at 18-19.

Marakovits ended his collegiate career in style, going the distance for the victory. He allowed seven hits, walked three batters, and registered five strikeouts. He got out of a bases loaded jam in the third, stranded a runner on third in the seventh, and escaped the eighth with a pair in scoring position.

In the bottom of the fourth, Brett Poulin led off with a double to left center and moved to third on a Mike McGowan groundout. Frank Calabrese then accounted for an RBI as he ripped a single to right field.

The Owls used four pitchers in the game and Eddie Dionne was saddled with the loss after giving up the game’s only run in four innings of work while scattering four of Springfield’s five hits. Andrew Gummow was the only player in the game to have multiple hits, as he tallied a pair of singles.
