Marlborough, Mass. - May 15, 2026 - Three from the Springfield College baseball program earned New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference honors following a strong season for the Pride.
For the first time in their careers, Chris Balchius (Norwalk, Conn.), Josh Mayo (Westfield, Mass.) and Kyle Mitchell (Wallingford, Conn.) were all named to the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team. This marks the first time since the 2023 season that a student-athlete has earned all-league accolades and first time since 2019 there have been three student-athletes to earn the honors.
Under first-year head coach Chad Shade '20, Springfield earned a trip to the NEWMAC Tournament for the first time since 2023 following a 23-win season which marks the most wins in a season for the Pride since 2018 and the third most in Division III program history.
In conference play, Balchius led the Pride at the plate with a .397 batting average to go along with 25 hits, three doubles, three home runs, 13 RBI and 15 runs scored. He also totaled a team-high 40 runs scored and second-best 49 hits on the season. The junior started 37 games in center field for Springfield, finishing the season with a .977 fielding percentage with 78 putouts and six assists.
Mayo excelled on the mound going 4-2 with a 3.83 earned run average over 56.1 innings. The junior pitched three complete games including a nine inning showing in a 5-3 comeback win against conference opponent Wheaton (Mass.) on April 4. He also posted one shutout and struck out 53 batters - the third most strikeouts in the NEWMAC.
Mitchell had a breakout season for Springfield as the junior batted .367 in conference play with 18 hits, three doubles, one triple, two home runs, eight runs scored and led Springfield with 16 RBI against conference opponents.
