Stow, Mass. - October 5, 2014 - Freshman Greg Allen (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) posted a 78 on the second day at the 2014 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Golf Championships hosted at Stow Acres Country Club and combined for a total score of 159 over the two-day tournament to pace the Springfield College golf team to a fifth-place finish. With a 37 on the back-nine of the second day, the Communications and Sports Journalism major earned Second-Team All-Conference honors in his first season with Springfield.
The Pride finished with a cumulative score of 726, as freshman Travis Price (Reading, Mass.) finished the second day with an 84 and combined for a score of 169, placing him as the runner-up on Springfield behind Allen. Senior Jordan Maynard (Norwich, Conn.) posted a 94 which was the Pride's third best on the day.
Babson College accrued a score of 623 over the course of the two-day 36-hole tournament, placing them first overall as a team and earning them the 2014 NECC Golf Championship. Babson freshman Ian Notkin (Caldwell, N.J.) finished the tournament with a pair of 76 totals, garnering both 2014 NECC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors.
Springfield will be back in action next weekend, as it will travel to Bernardston, Mass. to play in the ECAC Championships at Crumpin Fox Country Club.
