Box Score Milton, Mass. - September 24, 2014 - A late strike from sophomore forward Taylor Gilfoy (Holliston, Mass.) with 17:14 remaining in the contest aided the Springfield College men's soccer program to a 1-1 draw in a non-conference match-up with Curry College on Wednesday night at Walter. M. Katz Field.
With the draw, the Pride now holds a record of 3-1-4, while the Colonels now stand at 5-2-1 overall on the season. Springfield held a 23-21 shot advantage over 110 minutes of play, while also finishing with nine corner kicks to Curry's seven.
Junior goalkeeper Billy Schmid (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished with a season-high nine saves on the evening, while his counterpart, Dan Johnson (Easton, Conn.) posted eight stops of his own.
Curry College opened the scoring just 2:05 into the contest when Nick Gilman (Longmeadow, Mass.) pumped a shot past Schmid to give the Colonels a 1-0 advantage.
The two sides fought back-and-forth, exchanging scoring chance after scoring chance, when Gilfoy collected a pass from freshman forward Harrison Davis (Merrick, N.Y.) and found the back of the net to even the game at one goal apiece.
Despite hitting the post in the late stages of the second overtime period, the Pride finished the contest in a 1-1 gridlock with the Colonels.
Junior defenseman Connor Archambault (Torrance, Calif.) finished the contest with a team-high five shots for the Pride, including three on goal, while senior captain Drew Sommer (West Chester, Pa.) generated four of his own over the 110 minute contest.
Springfield will resume play back at Brock-Affleck Field on Saturday when it will take on New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe, Emerson College. The game is slated for 12 p.m.
