Wellesley, Mass. - October 21, 2015 - The Springfield College women's tennis program closed out its fall season on Wednesday night, as the sixth-seeded Pride fell to the third-seeded Wellesley College Blue in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Tournament Quarterfinals.
With the loss, Springfied, which qualified for the NEWMAC Tournament for a program-record third-straight season, finishes with a 3-7 record and a 2-7 mark in conference play, while Wellesley will improve to 8-3 (7-2) and move on to take on Babson on Saturday in the NEWMAC Semifinals.
In the No. 1 doubles slot, Rachel Litchfield (Northborough, Mass.) and Melissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) kicked off the afternoon with an 8-0 loss to Andjela Stojkovic (Victoria, British Columbia) and Carina Chen (Hong Kong), before Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) and Ariana Shemms (Goshen, Conn.) fell to Justine Huang (Coto de Caza, Calif.) and Emily Olson (La Jolla, Calif.), 8-3, in the No. 2 doubles slot. The Blue took a 3-0 lead over the Pride when Tristan Lorich (New York, N.Y.) and Roseanne Hu (Troy, Texas) defeated Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Fiona Stickney (Bayport, N.Y.), 8-1, in the No. 3.
Needing only five points to win the match, Caroline Dickensheets (Alpharetta, Ga.) defeated Shemms 6-1, 6-0, in the No. 5 singles slot and Hu defeated Stickney 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 6 to seal the victory for the Blue.
