Northampton, Mass. – April 28, 2026 – The fifth-seeded Springfield College women's tennis team saw its 2026 season come to a close as the Pride fell 4-0 to fourth-seeded and No. 56 nationally-ranked Smith College in the quarterfinal of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Tournament.
Springfield completes its season with a record of 9-8, while Smith improves to 9-8 and will travel to top-seed and No. 10 ranked MIT for the semifinal round on Saturday afternoon.
Smith took the doubles point with 6-1 wins at both No. 1 and No. 2. Ava Emrich and Heidi Cambron defeated
Natalia Peyon (Discovery Bay, Hong Kong) and
Kapom Vettayawaikoon (Phuket, Thailand) at the top spot before Ayla Hauser and Natazya Simunyola defeated
Ava Shea (Belchertown, Mass.) and
Peyton Gaudreau (Branford, Conn.) at No. 2. The third doubles match was not completed due to postseason rules with Smith having already clinched the doubles point.
Emrich earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Gaudreau at No. 1 singles, Simunyola bested
Alysa Elliott (Gros-Islet, Saint Lucia), 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Marielle Sauber completed the 4-0 sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win over
Kelly McGoldrick (Monroe, N.Y.) at No. 5 singles. At the time of completion, Smith had claimed the first set at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles.
