Men's Soccer Runs Past Framingham State, 4-2

Box Score

Framingham, Mass. - October 6, 2015 - A balanced scoring attack from the Springfield College men's soccer program lifted the Pride past the Framingham State College Rams, 4-2, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, Springfield continues one of the most impressive seasons in program history, as it is now 9-2-0 overall, while the Rams fall to 4-7 on the year.

Senior goalkeeper Billy Schmid (Wethersfield, Conn.) was backed by a strong defensive effort from the Pride, as he did not need to make a save throughout the contest, while Zach Richard (Millbury, Mass.) came on in relief. For the Rams, Josh Arno (Natick, Mass.) took the loss, as he made 12 stops throughout the contest.

Springfield also held a 26-9 advantage in shots, and 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.

After the Rams opened the game's scoring with a strike in the 24th minute from Ben Britton (Peabody, Mass.), the Pride answered back just ten minutes later, when sophomore Harrison Davis (Merrick, N.Y.) headed in a corner kick from Ryan Elster (Sutton, Mass.) to pull the Pride even at one goal apiece.

Just prior to halftime, Springfield would take a one-goal advantage when Tim Wood (Derry, N.H.) pumped in his fourth goal of the year when he sent a low strike past Arno following a long pass from junior forward Taylor Gilfoy (Holliston, Mass.).

Coming out of the half, the Pride continued its momentum, as Luke Alvaro (Chicopee, Mass.) hammered home his team-leading ninth strike of the season after finishing a chance set up by freshman Christian Schneider (Shelton, Conn.). In the 74th minute, sophomore Douglas Enga (Syosset, N.Y.) headed in another corner sent in from Elster to push Springfield's lead to three with only 15:27 remaining.

Following a penalty kick goal from Cory Cardeiro (Fall River, Mass.), the Pride were able to fend off the Rams for the remainder of the contest, prevailing over Framingham State, 4-2.

Up next, Springfield will return home to host WPI in a crucial New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest at 12 p.m.
