Box Score

Cambridge, Mass. - March 28, 2015 - A seven-point performance from senior midfielder Michelle Dorsey (Wilbraham, Mass.) fueled the Springfield College women's lacrosse program to a convincing 16-9 victory over MIT on Saturday afternoon at Jack Barry Field.

With the win, the Pride improve to 8-2 overall on the season and are off to its best start in Division-III program history. Springfied also now has a 2-0 mark in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), as MIT falls to 7-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Along with Dorsey, graduate student Kerstin Lindrooth (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) posted four goals in the victory, while junior midfielder Heather Raniolo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) pumped in three markers on the afternoon. In net, sophomore goalkeeper Gabriella Anderson (Mahopac, N.Y.) posted 11 saves on 20 shots, and picked up her eighth victory of the season.

For the Engineers, Isabella DiDio (Jenkintown, Pa.) posted three goals and one assist in the loss, while Emily Young (La Jolla, Calif.) registered four goals on the afternoon. In between the pipes, freshman goalkeeper Eva Boal (Princeton Junction, N.J.) posted just five saves on 21 shots on net from the Pride.

After Young struck for the Engineers off a feed from Kira Schott (New Canaan, Conn.) just 1:33 into the contest, Springfield rattled off five-straight goals including a pair from Raniolo and one each from Shelby Corsano (Bourne, Mass.), senior attack Colleen Keeley (Agawam, Mass.) and Dorsey to take a 5-1 lead with 16:41 left in the opening stanza.

Young netted her second of the contest at the 14:53 mark of the first half, before completing the hat trick to bring the Engineers back to within a pair with 1:22 left in the frame, making it 5-3, Springfield, at the halftime break.

Just as it did in the first half, MIT opened the second with a goal, this time from Schott on a free-position opportunity, before the Pride rattled off three more goals, including two from Lindrooth and one from Bianca Raniolo (Yorktown, N.Y.) to give the Pride an 8-4 lead with 22:40 left in the game.

With 19:07 on the clock, DiDio found the back of the net, before Dorsey scored just 19 seconds later to help the Pride regain its four-point advantage. Lindrooth then extended Springfield's lead to five with a finish off a feed from Keeley, before Schott and DiDio scored back-to-back to make it 10-7, Springfield, with 12:19 remaining.

Just 12 seconds later, Dorsey tacked on her third goal of the contest, before finding twine again with 10:26 remaining to boost the Pride's lead to five.

With the advantage, Young capitalized on a free-position chance with 9:29 left to cut MIT's deficit back to four, before Kristina Krull (Leicester, Mass.) and Heather Raniolo scored back-to-back shots just 1:29 apart from one another to put Springfield up, 14-8 with 5:11 left in the game.

After DiDio tallied her third goal of the contest, Dorsey and Lindrooth capped off the game's scoring with a pair of goals, giving Springfield the 16-9 win.

The Pride will return to action this upcoming week, as it will host Coast Guard on Wednesday, April 1 at 7 p.m. on Stagg Field.
