Worcester, Mass.-April 15, 2015- The Springfield College men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Clark University on Wednesday afternoon at Corash Tennis Courts.
With the loss, Springfield moves to 4-8 on the season, 1-3 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, Mass.) claimed No. 1 singles over Dan Stein (Newtown, Mass.) (4-3), while teammate Justin Danielewicz (Portland, Conn.) battled to the 7-6, 6-3 victory over Spencer Pinkey (Falmouth, Mass.) at No. 2. Cameron Grant (Babylon, N.Y.) fell to Fernando Pinoargote (Guayaquil, Ecuador) at No. 3 singles (2-6, 3-6).
Kyle Beynor (Prospect, Conn.) was bested at No. 4 singles versus Zack Goodstein (Columbus, Ohio) (1-6, 2-6). Nate Weissman (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Joshua Robinson (Southold, N.Y.) both were overwhelmed in the No. 5 (1-6, 0-6) and No. 6 (4-6, 1-6) slot of singles play.
DeVarennes and Danielewicz were victors in No. 1 doubles as they defeated Stein and Pinoargote 8-6. Grant and Beynor were beat by Goodstein and Cabell 8-6, while Weissman and Robinson were topped in the final match of the day at No. 3 doubles (8-5).
The Pride will hit the courts on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. when it travels to UMass Dartmouth in a non-conference matchup.
