Box Score Springfield, Mass. - April 21, 2015 - The Springfield College baseball closed out is New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) schedule with a 2-1 victory over Emerson College on Tuesday afternoon at Berry-Allen Field.
With the win, Springfield is now 7-21 on the season and 5-12 in conference play, while Emerson falls to 1-26 overall and 1-15 in league action.
Senior pitcher Dan Green (Oakland, N.J.) got the start for Springfield, pitching 7.0 innings, giving up seven hits, one run, while striking out one. Sophomore Luke Brown (Winter Garden, Fla.) came on in relief in the top of the eighth inning, where he struck out one, setting up Matt Butrym (Schenectady, N.Y.), who came on to get the three-out save.
For the Lions, freshman Henry Schwartz (Queens, N.Y.) threw 8.0 innings, giving up four hits and two runs, while also striking out four.
Springfield got on the board in the bottom of the third inning when Mark Joao (Wappinger Falls, N.Y.) hit a blooper to right, which fell, scoring Billy Paskowski (Wappinger Falls, N.Y.) from third. After a fly out to left from Corey Wilcox (Montville, Conn.), Peter Marsicano (Allentown, N.J.) tagged up and crossed the plate to give Springfield a 2-0 advantage.
Emerson cut its deficit in half in the top of the seventh, when Tim Quitadamo (Worcester, Mass.) hit an infield single to short with the bases loaded, scoring Henry Egan (Mattatuck, N.Y.) to make it 2-1, Springfield. Green would force the inning-ending double play to get out of the jam.
