Box Score Springfield, Mass. - April 28, 2015 - The Springfield College baseball program dropped a non-conference contest to Keene State College, 8-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Berry-Allen Field. With the loss, Springfield falls to 7-24 on the season, while the Owls improve to 10-22 overall.
Mike DeMille (East Milton, Mass.) started for the Pride, and threw 5.0 innings, allowing seven hits and four runs, while also striking out three. Mitchell Goldman (Uxbridge, Mass.) came on in the sixth and pitched 2.0 innings, giving up three hits and four runs, while striking out two, before Jon Medici (South Portland, Maine) finished up the game, hurling the final 2.0 frames, giving up one hit and striking out one.
For the Owls, Noah Rizio (Manchester Center, Vt.) started, pitching 5.0 innings, giving up five hits and two runs, while striking out one. Steven Zadravec (Fairfield, Conn.) came on in the sixth and pitched 2.0 frames, only allowing one hit, before Nick Nowak (South Windsor, Conn.) pitched the eighth, only allowing one hit. Nate Pederson (Sharon, Mass.) came on in the ninth and picked up the final three outs of the game.
Keene State took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first, following a lead-off double from Zach Rollins (Stafford Springs, Conn.) to left center, before Trevor Chapin (Northfield, N.H.) and Christian Bourgea (Litchfield, N.H.) hit back-to-back singles. On Bourgea's single, Rollins came around to score to give the Owls a 1-0 lead, before Chapin advanced home on a wild pitch from DeMille. After Kolby Reggione (Pomfret, Conn.) reached first on an error, Bourgea crossed home to give Keene State the 3-0 advantage at frame's end.
Springfield would cut its lead down to two in the bottom of the second, when Corey Wilcox (Montville, Conn.) led off with a double to center, before Brent Poulin (Atascadero, Calif.) slapped a double down the right field line, scoring Wilcox to make it 3-1, Keene State.
The Owls would tack on a fourth run in the top of the third When Billy Buscetto (Old Lyme, Conn.) singled to left, scoring Vinny Parilla (Londonderry, N.H.) to take a 4-1 lead.
Springfield climbed back to within a pair in the bottom of the fifth inning when Steve Starr (Lebanon, Conn.) drove home Billy Peterson (Wareham, Mass.) from second to make it 4-2, Keene State.
The Owls took an 8-2 lead in the top of the seventh, starting with a Abe Grainger (Bedford, Mass.) home run to left-center field, bringing in Bourgea to give Keene State the four-run lead. Later in the inning, Rollins cracked a single to center, which scored Parilla and Reggione to push the Owls' lead to six.
Springfield will return to action on Wednesday, April 29 when it will host MCLA at 3:30 p.m.
