Box Score Springfield, Mass. - September 17, 2015 - The Springfield College field hockey team posted a 3-0 shutout victory over Western New England on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action.
After its first loss of the season on Sunday, the Pride rebounded with a strong performance to move to 4-1 on the year. The loss was WNE's first of the season, dropping them to 3-1.
Springfield opened up the scoring in the 21st minute as Amanda Nusbaum (Conway, N.H.) found the back of the cage on an unassisted marker for what would prove to be the game-winning strike.
The Pride doubled its lead under under five minutes into the second half when Nusbaum connected with Kristina Krull (Leicester, Mass.). Springfield's final goal of the afternoon came at the 45:01 mark after Libby Hart (Chatham, Mass.) delivered a feed to Maggie Kennedy (Clay, N.Y.) for the visitors third goal of the game.
The Pride held a 16-3 edge in shots, while both team took eight corners. Timarie Villa (Mashpee, Mass.) needed to make just one save to earn her third shutout victory of the season.
Springfield will begin New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday when it hosts MIT at 1:00 pm on Stagg Field.
