Box Score

Norton, Mass. - September 19, 2015 - The Springfield College men's soccer team suffered its first setback of the 2015 season to Wheaton College on Saturday afternoon at Keefe Field. Coming into the contest, the unbeaten Pride were riding a five-game winning streak to start the season, the longest to start a season in Division III program history.

With the loss, Springfield is now 5-1 on the year, and 0-1 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), while the Lyons improve to 6-2 on the season, and 1-0 in league play.

Senior goalkeeper Billy Schmid (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished the contest with one stop, while his counterpart, James Bailey (Groton, Mass.) made five stops of his own. Springfield held a 13-11 shot advantage in the contest, while the Pride also had six corner kicks to Wheaton's two.

Kevin Gil (Pawtucket, R.I.) was the lone goal scorer of the day, as the Lyons struck early, and were able to fend off the Springfield offense for the remainder of the game. The goal came just 4:56 into the contest, when Noah Kossoff (New York, N.Y.) found Gil, who was able to find the back of the net, giving Wheaton a 1-0 lead.

Up next, Springfield will return home to host Anna Maria College on Monday, September 21 at 7 p.m.
