Box Score 2 Leesburg, Fla. - March 18, 2016 - A pair of dominating pitching performances from seniors Ben Bohlke (Nanuet, N.Y.) and Dan Green (Oakland, N.J.) highlighted the Springfield College baseball team on Friday, as the Pride defeated the Colby-Sawyer Chargers in a pair of seven-inning games at Pat Thomas Stadium.
With the wins, Springfield now boasts a record of 5-2-1 overall, while the Chargers fall to 6-4 on the year. The Pride took the first of the doubleheader, 9-1, before shutting out Colby-Sawyer in the second, 6-0.
Bohlke came out in the first contest and hurled a complete-game, only allowing five hits and no earned runs, while also fanning four Colby-Sawyer batters. Green, making his second start of the season, pitched a complete-game, four-hit shutout, as the senior also struck out seven.
The Pride will next play Hope on Saturday, March 19 in Auburndale, Fla. at 3:30 p.m. to wrap up its Spring Break trip.
Springfield 9, Colby-Sawyer 1 -- Game One
Freshman Matt Fraioli (Stamford, Conn.) picked up a career-best three RBI, as the Springfield College baseball team picked up a 9-1 victory over Colby-Sawyer in the first of two games on Friday, March 18 at Pat Thomas Stadium.
Along with Fraioli, classmate Brandon Drabinski (Lisbon, Conn.) also had a productive day at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI, while Colin King (Berlin, Conn.) was 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
The scoring got started in the top of the third inning, when Drabinski doubled, scoring Corey Wilcox (Uncasville, Conn.) and Mark Joao (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.), before Fraioli drove in Drabinski and Peter Marsicano (Allentown, N.J.) to make it 4-0, Pride.
The Chargers got a run back in the bottom half of the frame, but Springfield blew it open in the ensuing inning, when Wilcox and Mike Jamieson (New Fairfield, Conn.) drew back-to-back walks with the bases loaded, forcing runs across the plate, before Marsicano reached via an error by the second basemen, plating Wilcox and Joao.
The Pride would extend its lead to eight in the top of the sixth, when Fraioli hit a deep fly to center, bringing home Jamieson on the sacrifice fly. Bohlke finished strong, sealing the victory for Springfield.
Springfield 6, Colby-Saywer 0 -- Game Two
Freshman Kyle Allen (Westerly, R.I.) notched a pair of RBI, and Green pitched a complete-game shutout to lift the Pride past the Chargers in the second leg of the doubleheader at Pat Thomas Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Springfield also got RBI from Joao, King, Billy Peterson (Wareham, Mass.) and JP Peters (Guilford, Conn.) in the win.
The Pride broke open the game with a four-run bottom of the second, beginning when Allen drove a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Jamieson, before King singled to right, plating Marsicano. Peterson would beat out a double play to score Peters to make it 3-0, before the Pride pushed the fourth run across the plate when Joao drove in Patrick Coan (Pawcatuck, Conn.) from third.
The Chargers were threatening in the top of the fifth, when Tim Donovan (Litchfield, Conn.) singled to center with Liam Datres De La Blotier (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) on second, but Wilcox came up throwing, and launced a throw that was caught by Marsicano at the plate, who stood his ground and tagged Datres De La Blotier to preserve the shutout.
Springfield would tack on another two runs in the bottom of the fifth, when Peters drew another walk with the bases loaded, before Allen grounded out to second, scoring Jamieson from third.
