Westfield, Mass. - March 24, 2016 - Taking on Westfield State in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon, the Springfield College baseball team fell to the Owls 6-1 and suffered its second setback in as many days at Bud & Jim Hagan Field.

With the loss, Springfield is now 6-4-1 on the season, while Westfield State broke the .500 barrier, improving to 7-6 overall.

Junior Tyler Kelly (Alexandria, Va.) got the nod for the Pride, and pitched 4.1 innings, giving up seven hits and four runs, while freshman Brian Johnson (East Haddam, Conn.) came on to pitch 1.2 innings of two-hit ball, before Jack Baldwin (Southampton, Mass.) finished off the game, pitching 2.0 strong frames, giving up just one hit and fanning one batter.

For the Owls, Nate Barnes (Westfield, Mass.) picked up his second win of the year, pitching 6.0 innings, giving up five hits and one run while striking out three. Westfield State used three pitchers in the final three innings to keep the Pride at bay.

Freshman Brandon Drabinksi (Lisbon, Conn.) was an impressive 2-for-4 from the dish, as he also picked up his 11th RBI of the season in the loss. Additionally, Mike Jamieson (New Fairfield, Conn.), Billy Peterson (West Wareham, Mass.), Evan Moore (Portsmouth, R.I.) and Joey Gamache (Lebanon, Conn.) also picked up hits on the afternoon.

The Pride struck first in the contest, when Moore and Jamieson walked to put runners on first and second, before Drabinski drove in Moore with a single.

The Owls would quickly counter in the bottom of the frame with a run, before extending its lead to a pair in the bottom of the fourth to make it 3-1. The hosts would tack on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth to seal the 6-1 win.

Up next, Springfield will open New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play with a pair against Babson on Saturday, March 26 at 12 p.m.
