Box Score 2 Babson Park, Mass. - March 26, 2016 - Opening its 2016 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) slate, the Springfield College baseball team fell to Babson twice in two nine-inning games at Govoni Field on Saturday afternoon.
With the losses, the Pride even out to .500 and now stands at 6-6-1 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while the Beavers improve to 9-3-1 on the year and 2-0 in the league. Babson won the first, 3-0, before taking the second, 5-3.
Up next, Springfield will travel to MIT on Tuesday, March 29 for a 3:30 p.m. tilt.
Babson 3, Baseball 0 -- Game One
Despite a strong outing from senior pitcher Ben Bohlke (Nanuet, N.Y.), the Springfield College baseball team was blanked by host Babson College in the first of two games on Saturday.
Bohlke hurled 6.2 innings, giving up just eight hits and two earned runs, while also striking out one, as Cam Rivest (Agawam, Mass.) and Ken Manero (Hudson, Mass.) split the final 1.1 innings of the contest.
For Babson, Nick Ahearn (Norfolk, Mass.) picked up his first win of the season, pitching a complete-game five hitter, while also fanning five Springfield batters.
The Beavers did their damage in the bottom of the fifth inning, when they scored a run off a play with two errors, before Brian McHale (Ramsey, N.J.) crossed to make it 2-0, Babson.
In the bottom of the sixth, the hosts added to its lead with a sacrifice fly off the bat of George Crowley (Watertown, Mass.) driving in Jack Halpin (Glastonbury, Conn.) to seal the win.
Babson 5, Baseball 3 -- Game Two
Junior JP Peters (Guilford, Conn.) went 2-for-4 at the plate, and picked up two RBI, but the Pride fell in the second of two games to Babson, 5-3, on Saturday afternoon.
Along with Peters' successful game at the plate, freshman Evan Moore (Portsmouth, R.I.) and Peter Marsicano (Allentown, N.J.) also added hits in the setback.
On the mound, senior Dan Green (Oakland, N.J.) got the nod, and pitched 5.2 innings, giving up six hits and four runs, before Fletcher Comment (Westbrook, Conn.), Manero and Mitchell Goldman (Uxbridge, Mass.) all came on in relief.
Babson got started in the bottom of the second, when Jake Weiss (Irvine, Calif.) drew a walk, plating McHale, before Halpin picked up a two-RBI single to make it 3-0, Beavers after two.
In the ensuing inning, Peters broke the Pride's silence when he doubled to left, scoring Corey Wilcox (Uncasville, Conn.) and Moore to cut Springfield's deficit to one, before Marsicano singled to left, driving in Billy Peterson (West Wareham, Mass.) to make it 3-3 in the fifth.
Despite evening the game, Babson would score runs in the bottom of the sixth and the bottom of the seventh to ice the 5-3 win.
