New London, Conn. - April 6, 2016 - Behind a six-point performance from senior midfielder Heather Raniolo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), the Springfield College women's lacrosse program defeated the Coast Guard Academy, 12-2, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Wednesday night.

With the win, Springfield improves to 8-2 overall, and remains unbeaten in league play with a mark of 3-0. However, with the loss, the Bears fall to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the conference. The Pride outshot Coast Guard 24-3 over 60 minutes of play, while also holding a 12-3 advantage in draw controls. Additionally, Springfield won the ground-ball battle, picking up 16 to the Bears' nine, while the maroon and white was 18-for-19 clearing in the win.

Along with Raniolo's six-point effort, the Pride received four goals from sophomore Shelby Corsano (Bourne, Mass.), and a pair from Julia Bireley (Franklin, Mass.) in the win. In net, junior goalkeeper Gabby Anderson (Mahopac, N.Y.) registered one stop in the win.

It took the Pride just 1:53 to break the scoreless tie, as Corsano notched her team-leading 29th goal of the season, before tacking on another just 3:27 when she buried a feed from Bianca Raniolo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) to make it 2-0, Pride.

Heather Raniolo would capitalize on back-to-back free-position chances to make it 4-0, Springfield, before Bireley score with 6:17 remaining in the opening half to push the Pride's lead to five. Corsano and Heather Raniolo each tallied their third markers of the contest to make it 7-0, Springfield, at the break.

After Coast Guard score 2:43 into the second half, Springfield rattled off three goals in 4:05, including one from Ann Mahoney (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), a free-position goal from Katie Stallone (Seaford, N.Y.) and an unassisted tally from MK Jaeger (Plymouth, Mass.) to take a 10-1 lead over the Bears.

Corsano would bury a feed from Kristen Steidler (Somers, Conn.), and Bireley would capitalize on a free-position chance to seal the win for Springfield.

Up next, the Pride will return to Stagg Field and will take on Mount Holyoke on Saturday, April 9 at 1 p.m.
