Women's Volleyball Sweeps Mount Holyoke

Box Score

South Hadley, Mass. - October 10, 2017 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team delivered a straight-set win over Mount Holyoke in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action Tuesday night.

The Pride was victorious by the scores of 25-20, 25-16, 25-18 and improved to 13-5, 4-3 in conference play.

Jen Donnelly (Exeter, R.I.) led all players with 12 kills to go along with 11 digs and four blocks, while Kayleigh Helgesen (Oceanside, Calif.) added seven kills at a .429 clip.  Kayley Cimino (Cumberland, Maine) ran the attack with 26 assists and also collected 11 digs and six kills, and Anagabrielle Sanchez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) had a match-best 13 digs.

Springfield had a terrific start to the match, jumping out to a 7-2 cushion following Donnelly's fourth kill in the early going.  The hosts would climb back within 14-12 thanks to a Springfield attack error, but the Pride used a sideout kill from Donnelly to jumpstart a 5-1 push.  Springfield would let the Lyons get no closer than three as Springfield took the 25-20 decision, limiting Mount Holyoke to a -.080 hitting percentage.  Donnelly carried the offensive load, totaling seven of Springfield's 15 kills in the set.

Consecutive blocks from Donnelly and Camryn Bancroft (Eastport, N.Y.) allowed Springfield to seize a quick 5-0 lead in the second set, an advantage that would ballon to 12-3 when Bancroft teammed with Hayley Kmetz (Ardsley, N.Y.) for the stuff.  Springfield forced the Lyons into 11 attack errors in the set and eased its way to a 25-16 win, capping things off by a kill from Bridget Walsh (Garrison, N.Y.).

The Pride fell behind 4-2 in the beginning stages of the third set, but put together a 12-4 surge to earn a 14-8 edge following another stuff from Donnelly and Bancroft.  Helgesen produced four of her seven kills in the set and Springfield sealed the sweep with Bancroft's sixth kill of the night at 25-18.

Springfield will travel out of region this upcoming weekend as it hits the New York Thruway to play in the RIT Brick City Invite against Nazareth, Vassar, and host RIT.
