Northampton, Mass. - April 19, 2017 - Led by an eight-point performance from junior attacker Kayla Schroeher (Riverhead, N.Y.), the Springfield College women's lacrosse team defeated Smith College, 13-2, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Wednesday evening.

With the win, the Pride is now 10-4 overall with a 6-0 mark in conference, while the Pioneers fall to 8-6 on the year, and is 0-6 against NEWMAC opponents. Springfield College held a 22-11 shot advantage over 60 minutes of play, while securing 11 draw controls to the Pioneers' six. Both sides had 16 ground balls.

Along with eight points, including six goals and two assists from Schroeher, junior attack Shelby Corsano (Bourne, Mass.) chipped in with three goals and an assist while also collecting a team-best four draw controls. In net, Gabby Anderson (Mahopac, N.Y.) made five stops en route to her 10th win of the year. Freshman goalkeeper Brenna Keefe (Acton, Mass.) came on in the final 10:23 and made two saves to preserve the win.

It was all Springfield College in the early goings, as the Pride picked up five goals in the first 9:51 to take a 5-0 lead over Smith. Corsano opened the game's scoring, before Allie Goddard (Acton, Mass.) hauled in a pass from Schroeher and found the back of the net to make it 2-0. Corsano would capitalize on a free-position chance just 43 seconds later, before Schroeher and Kristen Steidler (Somers, Conn.) found the back of the net to complete the run.

The Pride didn't slow down, as Bianca Raniolo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) scored to make it 6-0, before Schroeher picked up three more, Amanda Nusbaum (Conway, N.H.) registered a free-position goal, and Corsano ended the half with an unassisted strike to send the Pride into the locker room with an 11-0 lead. 

Schroeher scored her fifth of the game just 4:21 into the second half to push Springfield College's lead to 12, before the junior scored once more just 4:23 later to make it 13-0, Pride. Smith would score twice in the final 8:07, but Springfield College escaped with the 13-2 win.

Up next, Springfield College will return to Stagg Field on Saturday, April 22 when it will take on Babson at 1 p.m. in a critical NEWMAC contest.
