Box Score Springfield, Mass. - September 16, 2016 - The Springfield College men's soccer team began their New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) title defense on Saturday and produced a 3-0 victory over Coast Guard on Brock-Affleck Field.
This marks the third-consecutive season that Springfield has started off the season with five-straight victories. The loss dropped Coast Guard to 3-2, 0-1.
Both teams turned in similar offensive performances, as the Pride managed 10 shots in the game while the Bears compiled eight, six of them coming in the second half. Coast Guard earned three corner kicks while Springfield finished with four.
Springfield struck early in the opening minutes, as Harry Davis (Merrick, N.Y.) elevated to connect with a Danny Murphy (Old Saybrook, Conn.) free-kick just 2:36 into the contest for what would prove to be the game-winning goal. Keon Haji (Shrewsbury, Mass.) followed up with a goal at the 17:34 mark of the first half, taking a feed from Christian Schneider (Douglas, Mass.) and slotting home a shot into the left corner of the net.
Brad Deckel (Lansdale, Pa.) would tack on an insurance goal in the 57th minute as he headed home a Murphy service for his team-leading sixth goal of the season. Stewart Frank (Pittsford, N.Y.) delivered the clean sheet for Springfield as he made four stops between the pipes.
The Pride will now turn their focus to Eastern Nazarene, whom they will host at 4 pm on Monday.
