Standish, Maine - September 20, 2017 - Despite a second-half goal from senior forward Maggie Kennedy (Clay, N.Y.), the Springfield College field hockey team suffered its first setback of the 2017 season and fell to St. Joseph's (ME), 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon at SJC Athletic Complex.

With the loss, the Pride's best start to a season since 1996 comes to a halt, as Springfield College is now 5-1 on the year. With the win, the Monks are now 3-3 overall. St. Joseph's (ME) held a 10-6 shot advantage over 70 minutes of play, while the Monks were also awarded 11 penalty corners to the Pride's five.

In net for Springfield College, junior goalkeeper Emmalie Drake (Pittsford, N.Y.) made four saves, while her counterpart, Megan Baker (Gorham, Maine) finished with three saves and picked up her third win of the season. 

After back-and-forth play to start the game, the Monks got on the board first when Alexandra Belaire (Green, Maine) set up Libby Pomerleau (Limerick, Maine) for her sixth goal of the season, before Hayley Winslow (Falmouth, Maine) put the hosts up 2-0 following a goal with 8:00 to play in the first half.

Coming out of the halftime break facing a two-goal deficit, Dani Sweet (Charlton, Mass.) set up Kennedy for her sixth goal of the season to make it 2-1, Monks, but the Pride could not find the back of the net again, falling to St. Joseph's (ME), 2-1, at the end of regulation.

The Pride will return to action on Saturday, September 23 when it will take on No. 2 Babson College in its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) season opener.
