Box Score Worcester, Mass. - September 30, 2017 - The Springfield College men's soccer team remained unbeaten in 2017 as the nationally-ranked Pride defeated Clark University, 2-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Granger Field.
With the win, the Pride, which moved up to No. 18 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division III National Rankings, improves to 8-0 on the year and 3-0 in the NEWMAC, while the Cougars are now 4-3-3 overall and 1-1-1 in the league. Springfield College held a 27-5 shot advantage over 90 minutes of play, while it was also awarded eight corner kicks to Clark's three.
In net for the Pride was junior goalkeeper Stewart Frank (Pittsford, N.Y.), who made just three saves in the victory, while his counterpart, Connor Maguire (Dunstable, Mass.) made nine stops in the setback.
Just 5:39 into the contest, Brad Deckel (Lansdale, Pa.) got Springfield College on the board as following a Danny Murphy (Old Saybrook, Conn.) cross that went long, the junior defender gained control of the ball, beat his defender up field and then let one fly into the top right corner of the net to make it 1-0, Pride.
With under 20 minutes to play in the first half, a ball that was played in by Xavi Arroyo (Concord, Mass.) found its way into the box before Cam Powell (Housatonic, Mass.) got a shot off, which was saved, but the rebound bounced to Deckel, whose shot was redirected to Christian Schneider (Douglas, Mass.), who blasted home his fourth goal of the season to make it 2-0, Pride, with 19:31 to play in the first.
Springfield College and Clark played a scoreless second half, as Springfield College had a majority of the chances, owning a 10-5 shot advantage in the last 45 minutes of play.
The Pride will play its fourth road game of the 2017 campaign on Tuesday, October 3, when it will take on Framingham State at 4 p.m.
