Box Score Springfield, Mass. - September 6, 2017 - The Springfield College field hockey team held a 31-6 edge in shots and pumped in a pair of goals 5:39 apart to best crosstown-rival Western New England, 2-1, at a rainy Golden Bear Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
The Pride pushed its record to 3-0 on the season, marking the third time in the past four seasons that the Pride has won its first three contests. The loss dropped WNE to 1-1 on the year.
After the hosts Golden Bears netted the game's first goal with just under four minutes left in the opening half, Springfield dominated the second half, owning a 19-1 advantage in shots. Springfield evened things at a goal apiece at the 50:21 mark when Gabby Guerard (Derry, N.H.) took a feed from Maggie Kennedy (Clay, N.Y.) and slotted home her first goal of the year. Just 5:39 later, Kennedy pumped home the game winner when she finished a great look from Belle Copponi (Dover, Mass.).
Emmalie Drake (Pittsford, N.Y.) was credited with the win in goal as she made four saves for Springfield.
Springfield will return to Stagg Field on Saturday when it hosts Husson for a 4 pm contest.
