Box Score Norton, Mass. - October 23, 2018 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team swept Wheaton in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) battle on Tuesday night by the set scores of 25-9, 25-20, 25-14.
The win allowed Springfield to stay atop the conference standings with a 21-6, 8-1 conference record, while the Lyons dropped to 21-8, 5-4.
Jen Donnelly (Exeter, R.I.) notched 14 kills and 12 digs, hitting at a .312 clip, while Sara Labadorf (Huntersville, N.C.) totaled 30 assists, 12 digs, and five aces. Briana Tovar (Tucson, Ariz.) registered a match-best 19 digs and Katie vonKampen (South Setauket, N.Y.) posted six blocks and six kills. The Pride limited Wheaton to a .017 hitting percentage in the contest.
Leading 10-6 in the opening frame, Springfield put together a 10-0 burst, with vonKampen delivering a solo stuff to put the visitors on top, 20-6. Springfield managed 12 kills in the opening frame and forced the hosts into a -.065 hitting percentage as it cruised to a 25-9 win.
In the second, consecutive Wheaton hitting errors allowed the Pride to gain a 12-4 advantage, but the Lyons would make things interesting with a late push to pull within 24-20. However, Donnelly concluded the 25-20 win with a huge swing to give the Pride a 2-0 lead in the match.
With a 12-9 lead in the third, the Pride rattled off four-straight points, getting a pair of aces from Tovar, to boost its lead to 16-9. Springfield would later score the final six points of the match, with Labadorf dealing a pair of aces and and Donnelly ripping two kills en route to the 25-14 triumph.
The Pride will conclude the regular season on Saturday in Blake Arena versus Emerson at 1 pm.
