Baseball Cruises Past Cazenovia, 11-0, to Earn Fifth Win on Spring Break

Auburndale, Fla. - March 15, 2018 - The Springfield College baseball team picked up its fifth win on Spring Break on Thursday afternoon, as the Pride defeated Cazenovia, 11-0, at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex. With the win, the Pride is now 5-1 in Florida and 6-2-1 overall, while the Wildcats fall to 2-5 on the year.

Freshman pitcher Dakota Aldrich (Ellington, Conn.) picked up his first-career collegiate win as he pitched 4.0 innings, giving up just one hit and striking out seven. The trio of Zach Kerr (Niskayuna, N.Y.), Jordan Elkary (North Easton, Conn.) and John Daley (Huntington, Mass.) came on to pitch the final three, as Daley struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth in his first collegiate appearance.

Offensively, Peter Marsicano (Allentown, N.J.), Matt Fraioli (Stamford, Conn.), Cam Rivest (Agawam, Mass.) and Nick Leduc (Belchertown, Mass.) each had two hits, while Mark Joao (Wappinger Falls, N.Y.), Rivest and Brandon Russo (Lisbon, Conn.) had two RBI apiece.

Springfield College got to work early in the game as it scored seven runs in the top of the first inning, as Marsicano got the ball rolling with an RBI single to score Chad Shade (Pittsfield, Mass.), before Fraioli drove in Marsicano to make it 2-0. After Rivest reached on a fielder's choice, plating Joao, Russo cracked a two-run double beofre Shade and Joao finished the frame with RBI to cap the seven-run inning for the Pride.

Joao drove in Leduc on a sacrifice fly in the third to make it 8-0, Pride, before Rivest drove in Diaz for his second RBI of the day in the top of the fifth, forcing a 9-0 advantage. Following suit, David Wells (Shelton, Conn.) roped an RBI double to score Jason Bean (Middleboro, Mass.), before Jack Simonetty (Wappinger Falls, N.Y.) rounded out the Pride's scoring with a sacrifice fly, plating Bean to make it 11-0.

Springfield College will resume play on Friday, March 16 when the Pride will play a doubleheader with Farmingdale State College at 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.
