Springfield, Mass. - March 27, 2018 - Despite scoring the game's first two goals, the Springfield College women's lacrosse team fell to nationally-ranked Trinity College,16-7, on Tuesday night at Stagg Field. 

With this loss, the Pride drop to 5-4 on the year, while the Bantams, who was ranked ninth nationally in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III National Rankings, improve to 5-2. Trinity held a shot advantage 31-24 throughout gameplay, while also securing 18 ground balls. Springfield had a slight draw advantage 14-12. In net for the Pride, Brenna Keefe (Acton, Mass.) recorded 12 saves, while goalkeeper Zoe Ferguson had 10 saves and secured the victory for the Bantams.

Springfield couldn't have asked for a better start with two goals coming in the first 2:30 minutes of play. The first marker of the game came off the stick of Shelby Corsano (Bourne, Mass.) at 29:15 on a free-position shot, before Kayla Schroeher (Riverhead, N.Y.) struck on another free position shot at 27:30. From there, Trinity rattled off nine unanswered goals over a 21-minute span, making it 9-2. Springfeld finally broke through again with 1:11 left in the stanza when Ann Mahoney (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) pumped home a free-position strike to make it 9-3 going into the half. 

Starting the second half, Kendall Milligan scored on a free position shot to increase the Bantams lead to 10-3. On the very next possession, Allie Goddard (Acton, Mass.) scored on an assist from Kristen Steidler (Somers, Conn.) at the 27:17 mark to keep the game to a six-goal margin. However, the Bantams struck right back with four consecutive goals, two coming from Sophie Berger, to balloon its lead to 14-4 with 16:02 to play. 

Springfield came as close as eight, off a goal from Amanda Nusbaum(Conway, N.H.) with 8:08 on the clock, only to have Trinity net in two of the final three goals, sealing the 16-7 victory over the Pride. 

Springfield will host Babson at 1 pm on Saturday in a rematch of last year's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship on Stagg Field.
