Box Score

Babson Park, Mass. - April 10, 2018 - Despite senior Mark Joao (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) and sophomore Jake Gleason (South Dennis, Mass.) both registering home runs in the contest, the Springfield College baseball team fell to Babson, 6-3, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday afternoon at Giovoni Field.

With the loss, the Pride saw its four-game win streak come to a halt, as the Pride is now 17-6-2 with a 6-3 record against conference opponents. Babson improved to 18-7 overall and 8-2 in NEWMAC play with the win.

Joao finished the day 1-for-4 at the plate with two RBI, while Brandon Drabinski (Lisbon, Conn.) and Chad Shade (Pittsfield, Mass.) both had two hits apiece. Senior Joe Gamache (Lebanon, Conn.) got the nod for the Pride and pitched 3.2 innings, giving up nine hits, while Ken Manero (Hudson, Mass.) came on in relief and held the Beavers to just two hits across 2.0 innings. Jack Weinberger (Sunapee, N.H.) came on for the final 2.1 frames and held Babson to just one hit while striking out a pair.

Babson's Michael Genaro (Greenwich, Conn.) improved to 5-1 as he pitched 7.0 innings and struck out nine, while Matt Cuneo (Ashland, Mass.) picked up his third save of the year.

Springfield College jumped out to an early 2-0 lead over the Beavers in the top of the first when Shade reached on a single to lead off the game, before two batters later, Joao cracked his third home run of the year to left field. Babson would cut its deficit to one on a sacrifice fly that scored David Lennon (Windermere, Fla.), before Gleason pushed the Pride's advantage back to a pair with a solo shot to right field, making it 3-1, Springfield.

In the bottom of the second, Babson rallied for three runs to take a 4-3 advantage, before Genaro settled in, picking up six strikeouts through the rest of his outing. The Beavers would add insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth and bottom of the sixth to seal the win.

Springfield College will return to action on Thursday, April 12 when the Pride heads to Keene State for a non-conference game beginning at 3:30 p.m.
