Box Score

Keene, N.H. - April 12, 2018 - The Springfield College baseball team fell to Keene State, 14-10, in non-conference play on Thursday afternoon at the Owl Athletic Complex. With the loss, the Pride is now 17-7-2, while the Owls improve to 11-9.

Sophomore Nick Naples (Kensington, Conn.) got the nod for the Pride, but was quickly replaced by Dakota Aldrich (Ellington, Conn.), who went 3.0 strong innings, holding the Owls to just two hits. From there, the committee of Duncan Satterlee (Albany, N.Y.) and Kenny Walton (New Providence, Pa.) each came on in relief, while Jordan Elkary (North Easton, Mass.) and Jake Gleason (South Dennis, Mass.) came on for the final four outs.

Offensively, Alex Denoyelle (Woonsocket, R.I.) went 2-for-5 and hit his first-career home run, while Chad Shade (Pittsfield, Mass.) hit his third home run of the season and stole two bases in the setback. Logan Barrett (Petersham, Mass.) also had three hits on the day and two RBI.

Keene State starter Steven Zadravec (Fairfield, Conn.) went for 5.0 frames and allowed 10 hits and seven runs, while striking out six.

Springfield College got on the board in the top of the first inning when David Wells (Shelton, Conn.) scored on an error, before Keene State exploded for eight runs in the bottom half of the frame, including a grand slam off the bat of Abe Grainger (Bedford, Mass.), to spot the Owls an 8-1 lead after one. The Pride responded in the top of the second as Denoyelle hit his first-career home run, as two-run blast to make it 8-3, before Barrett doubled to right, scoring Shade, cutting Springfield College's deficit to four.

Keene State added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to open an 11-4 lead over Springfield College, but Shade would hit his third home run of the season, followed by a two-run single from Kyle Allen (Westerly, R.I.) to make it 11-7. Grainger drove in another run in the bottom of the fifth to push the Owls' lead back to five, but Springfield College once again pulled back to within three when Barrett drove in Nick Leduc (Belchertown, Mass.) on a single to right, before Shade scored on a wild pitch, making it 12-9, Keene State.

Springfield College would pull to within a pair in the top of the seventh when Wells grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Brandon Drabinski (Lisbon, Conn.) to score, but Keene State would close the door with two more in the bottom of the frame to seal the 14-10 win.

Next, the Pride will return home to Archie Allen Field on Friday, April 13 when it will open a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) West series with Clark at 3:30 p.m.
