Box Score

New London, Conn. - September 15, 2018 - Sophomore Emmanuel Agyemang (East Hartford, Conn.) found the back of the net with just 4:16 to play in the second overtime period to lift the Springfield College men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Coast Guard in the Pride's first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) of the 2018 season. The game was played at Cadet Memorial Field on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Pride improves to 4-2 overall and starts 1-0 in league play, while the Bears fall to 1-3-2 on the year, with a 0-1 mark against conference opponents. Springfield College held a slight 13-12 advantage in shots over 105:44 of play, while the Pride was awarded 12 corner kicks compared to the Bears' two.

In net, senior goalkeeper Stewart Frank (Pittsford, N.Y.) made four saves in the win, while his counterpart, Dakota Harich (New Market, Md.), made three stops in the setback.

With less than five minutes left in the second overtime period, Joseph Olaynack (Middletown, R.I.) carried the ball down the right flank before crossing a ball into the box. Andrew Ma (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) won a header and directed the ball behind him, wher Agyemang was waiting for a point-blank opportunity that he converted to give Springfield College the victory.

Coast Guard had an opportunity to score early when Noa Pagatpatan (Hilton Head Island, N.C.) put a header on cage, but Frank made a save to keep the Bears at bay. Springfield College had its first shot on goal in the 69th minute when Tyler Maider (Seattle, Wash.) had his shot saved by Harich, before Stefan Richardson (Nieuw Nederland, Curacao) got a header on net in the 74th minute, also turned away by Harich.

Agyemang had a header stopped by Harich just 2:17 into the second overtime period, but was able to convert his next opportunity to lift the Pride to victory.

Up next, Springfield College will travel to Gordon on Tuesday, September 18 for a 4 p.m. match with the Fighting Scots.
