Men's Soccer Records 3-0 Shutout Over Emerson College

Box Score

Springfield, Mass. - October 19, 2019 - The Springfield College men's soccer program picked up an important 3-0 victory over Emerson College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Brock-Affleck Field.

The Pride improve 4-9-1 on the season and now are 2-3 in the NEWMAC standings. Emerson slips to 2-10-2 and 0-5 in the conference.

Springfield controlled the ball through the first half, pushing the attack to Emerson's side of the field. At 35:46, Jack Rosenberg (Simsbury, Conn.) strided down the right side of the field ripped a shot that was blocked by David Kemp from the Lions, but Andrew Ma (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) tracked down the rebound and punched in a goal giving the Pride a 1-0 lead. Later in the half, the Pride was executing their offense and a handball was called against the Emerson defense. At 8:30, senior captain Keith Dixon (Amherst, Mass.) , who was honored before the game, slotted in the penalty kick to enhance the Springfield lead to 2-0.

With a less than a minute left in the half, Joseph Olaynack (Middletown, R.I.) would seperate himself from the defense and face just the keeper, but Kemp would defend it well and the half would close with a two goal lead for the Pride.

In the second period, Springfield came out aggressive with several shots ringing out in the first five minutes, but could not convert on their opportunities. At the 69:49, Ma swiftly approached the box and slipped a pass to Garrett Ossolinski (Wappinger Falls, N.Y.), who finished off the feed elevating the lead to 3-0.

For the remainder of the half, the Pride clamped down defensively. Emerson had a few comeback-potential plays, including four corner kicks, but Clayton Knibbs (Madison,Conn.) made key stops on the ball to keep the Lions' attack at bay.

Springfield will have a midweek non-conference match up with Brandeis University on Wednesday, October 24 at 3:30 pm before returning to NEWMAC play on Saturday.
