Box Score Cambridge, Mass. – October 26, 2019 – The Springfield College women's soccer team suffered a 5-0 setback to MIT in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Steinbrenner Stadium.
The loss snaps a six-game winning streak for the Pride, giving them a record of 11-4-1 and 6-2 in the NEWMAC. The Engineers, who are ranked No. 6 in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll, are now 15-1-2 and 8-0 in the NEWMAC. The Pride had 10 saves in the match.
In the first half, MIT controlled possession, but could not get an opportunity to score. At 33:26, the Engineers broke the scoreless tie with a Emily Berzolla strike. Adalia Malick (Bristol, Conn.) put two shots on goal for Springfield, attempting to tie the game in the first half.
In the second half, the nationally-ranked Engineers exploded for four goals and ballooned their lead to 5-0. Springfield had chances early in the second period to get on the board with shots from Kaleigh Dale (Mansfield, Conn.) and Nicole Morin-Trotta (Ashburnham, Mass.) , but they were both swiped away.
In net, Bridget O'Connor (Hanover, Mass.) collected a career-high nine saves in the loss.
The Pride will look to bounce back as they travel to Wheaton College on Tuesday, October 29 at 3 pm.
