Men's Tennis Handles Western Connecticut, 7-2

Springfield, Mass. - April 12, 2019 - The Springfield College men's tennis team eased their way to a 7-2 victory over visiting Western Connecticut in non-conference play on Friday night on Appleton Courts. 

The win lifted the Pride's record to 5-7 on the year.

Springfield picked up a pair of wins in doubles play, with the No. 1 duo of Court Honda (Morioka, Japan) and Drew DeLorenzo(Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and the No. 3 squad of  Lucas Van Deventer (Ellington, Conn.) and Jack Anastopoulos (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) each posting 8-0 victories.  

Honda carried that momentum in singles play, besting his opponent at No. 1 by a 6-1, 6-2 margin before Van Deventer earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4. James Foley (Fair Haven, N.J.) then added a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 and Hieu Ton (Rocky Hill, Conn.) also cruised at the No. 5 position by a score of 6-0,  6-1.   Anastopoulos later closed out the with a 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 3. 

The Pride will compete at the final time at home this season on Wednesday when it hosts Babson in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match starting at 4:00 pm.
