Springfield, Mass. - April 17, 2019 - Competing for the final time at home this season, the Springfield College men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to Babson in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Wednesday at Appleton Courts.
The loss brought Springfield's record to 5-8, 0-4 in conference play, while Babson improved to 11-4, 3-1.
Babson won all three points in doubles play, with the Pride's No. 2 team of Freddie Moffa (Granby, Conn.) and Jack Anastopoulos (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) producing the best result in their 8-5 setback.
In singles play, competing for the last time on Appleton Courts, senior Court Honda (Marioka, Japan) prevailed at the No. 1 position with a gritty 6-4, 7-5 win. Hieu Ton (Rocky Hill, Conn.) also battled tough at the No. 6 spot before ultimately falling, 6-3, 6-1.
This Saturday, Springfield will travel to face MIT for a match starting at 10:30 in the morning.
