Women's Tennis Picks Up 6-3 Victory Against Colby-Sawyer

Springfield, Mass. - April 7, 2019 - The Springfield College women's tennis team cruised to a 6-3 win over visiting Colby-Sawyer on Sunday afternoon to win for the second time in as many days at Appleton Courts. 

Springfield improved to 9-2 on the season with the victory. 

In doubles play Rielly Malz (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) earned an 8-3 win at the No. 2 spot, while the No. 3 team of Amanda Hill (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Hailey Higgins (New Marlborough, Mass.) prevailed by an 8-1 decision at No. 3.

After Colby-Sawyer picked up a win at No. 1 singles to even the match at 2-2, Malz delivered a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 3 and Freadman added a 7-6(5), 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot.  Rachel Alhmeyer (Morris Plains, N.J.) locked up the win for the Pride with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 win at No. 4 and Higgins added an insurance point by virtue of a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 6. 

The Pride will look to continue its winning ways with an important New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest at Mount Holyoke on Tuesday beginning at 4:30 pm.
