Mount Holyoke Outlasts Women's Tennis, 7-2

South Hadley, Mass. - April 9, 2019 - The Springfield College women's tennis team was defeated by Mount Holyoke by a 7-2 decision at the Kendall Indoor Courts in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) clash on a rainy Tuesday afternoon.

Springfield trailed 2-1 after doubles play despite three very close matches.  Rachel Ahlmeyer (Morris Plains, N.J.) and Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) cruised to an 8-4 at the No. 3 spot to earn the first point of the day, only to have the Lyons prevail 8-4 at the No. 1 spot and 8-5 at the No. 2 position. 

Melissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) evened the match up at 2-2 after she cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 1 spot for the Pride.  However, the hosts would go on to win the other five singles match en route to the 7-2 triumph.  Julietta Piazza (Portland, Conn.) put forth a strong showing at No. 6 before ultimately dropping a 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 setback.

The Pride play again on Saturday when it travels to face Wellesley at 11 am.
