Top-Ranked Men's Volleyball Clamps Down On Lasell, 3-0

Box Score

Newton, Mass. - March 11, 2020 -  The Springfield College men's volleyball team earned its fifth-straight three-set victory as it cruised past host Lasell College on Wednesday night by the scores of 25-16, 25-15, 25-20.

Winners of their last six matches and 17-consecutive sets, Springfield improved to 19-2 on the year.  The Pride was once again ranked No. 1 in the nation in this week's AVCA Division III National Coaches Poll.

Springfield held Lasell to a .000 hitting percentage on the night as Chris Parker (East Northport, N.Y.) registered eight total blocks. Jarrett Anderson (San Jose, Calif.) delivered 11 kills and five blocks, Brennen Brandow (Manorville, N.Y.) chipped in 10 kills at a .444 clip, while Liam York (Kailua, Hawaii) totaled eight kills and seven digs.  Matt Lilley (Stony Brook, N.Y.) was credited with 29 assists in aiding the Pride to a .441 hitting percentage in the victory.

The Pride jumped out to a 6-2 lead to start the match following back-to-back aces by York.  Springfield would force the Lasers into their second timeout of the set at 18-11 when Anderson delivered an out-of-system roll shot for a kill, before Parker buried a ball out of the middle for the 25-16 win.  Springfield produced 11 kills hitting .611 in the opener, with Anderson putting away five kills in the frame.

In the second set, Lasell would commit 12 attack errors en route to a -.154 hitting percentage as Springfield cruised to a 25-15 victory.  With the score knotted at 8-8, the Pride scored eight-straight points, bolstered by four blocks from Parker, to run away with a 25-15 win.

Springfield earned a 14-9 lead in the third when Anderson put away a kill, only to have the hosts use an 8-4 surge to even the stanza up at 18-18.  The Pride responded with a 5-1 push, as Brandow delivered a kill to make it a 23-19 contest.  A service error from Lasell would give Springfield match point, and Anderson would step back to the service line and unleash the Pride's fifth ace of the night to complete the three-set sweep.

Springfield will next play on March 26 when it travels to New York City to battle with Baruch for a 6 pm tilt.
