Box Score

Worcester, Mass. - April 17, 2021 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse program secured a 21-2 victory over Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competition on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, Springfield improved to 3-0 on the year, while Clark drops to 0-3 on the season. The Pride only committed five turnovers on the day.

Springfield was sparked by the play of Kate Sarnacki (Granby, Mass.), who finished with six goals, two assists, and five ground balls. Fellow senior Taylor Pichel (Hopkinton, Mass.) added four goals and four helpers while Anjelia Altebrando (Miller Place, N.Y.) scored three times and dished out three assists for the Pride. Eight different players scored for Springfield in the victory. Defensively, the Pride only allowed three shots on goal.

Claudia Oakleaf scored both goals for the Cougars while Iris Knowles had four ground balls in the setback.

After Oakleaf scored on a free-position shot at the 28:08 mark in the first half, Springfield was able to jump out to a 4-1 lead with 24:59 on the clock as Sarnacki and Altebrando each scored a pair of goals in the span. At the 4:54 mark in the first half, Carlee Crispens (Wallingford, Conn.) netted her first collegiate goal off an unassisted strike, giving Springfield a 13-1 lead. Maddie Roy (Wilbraham, Mass.) connected with Sarnacki with 3:44 remaining to push Springfield's lead to 14-1 entering halftime. Sarnacki scored five of her six goals in the first 30 minutes to pace the Pride.

In the second half, Springfield's lead grew to 15-1 as Gabby Fogg (Wells, Maine) scored off a Pichel feed at the 22:40 mark. From there, the Pride scored five-straight goals elevating their lead to 20-1 after Isabella Cardaropoli (Palmer, Mass.) dished to Jamie Jutras (Litchfield, N.H.) for the score with 8:05 on the clock. Oakleaf would score again for the Cougars with 6:39 remaining to make the score 20-2 for the Pride. Jutras would later find Pichel for her fourth goal of the game at the 5:18 mark, to cap off Springfield's impressive scoring display, and give the Pride a 21-2 advantage.

Springfield will now prepare for the upcoming NEWMAC Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament next weekend.
