Springfield, Mass. - April 24, 2021 - For the second time this season, the Springfield College women's tennis team earned an 8-1 victory over Clark University on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
The victory boosted Springfield's record to 3-1 on the season.
Springfield coasted in doubles play as Rielly Malz (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Gabriella Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.) delivered an 8-0 win at the top spot. Kate Rosselli (Trumbull, Conn.) and Hailey Higgins (New Marlborough, Mass.) were next off the court at No. 3 doubles with an 8-3 win, while Heidi Schuman (Nassau, N.Y.) and Juliette Piazza (Portland, Conn.) followed with an 8-3 win over their own at No. 2.
The Pride would picked up five wins in singles play, beginning with a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the No. 6 spot by Higgins. Malz then produced a 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1, while Rosselli pulled out a 6-4, 6-4 triumph at No. 5. Schuman added a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 4, and Heaney-Secord closed out the afternoon with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 2.
Springfield will close out the regular season next Sunday when it hosts Babson at 3 pm.
