Springfield, Mass. - May 2, 2021 - In their final contest of the 2021 campaign, the Springfield College men's tennis team was defeated by Wheaton, 7-2, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Sunday on Appleton Courts afternoon.
After Wheaton earned double victories by the scores of 8-6, and 8-1, Springfield bounced back with a pair of victories in singles play through some gritty efforts. Lucas Van Deventer (Ellington, Conn.) clinched a 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 4 spot, while David Kilburn (West Roxbury, Mass.) battled his way to a 7-6, 6-4 in the No. 5 position for the Pride. Greg Baker (Princeton, N.J.) also had an impressive showing at the No. 2 position in a 6-3, 6-4 setback.
