Men's Swimming and Diving Prevails Over Roger Williams and Wesleyan

Springfield, Mass. - January 15, 2022 - In their first competition since returning back to campus, the Springfield College men's swimming and diving team won the final relay to clinch victories over Roger Williams and Wesleyan in the Linkletter Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.

The Pride was able to clip Wesleyan, 147-146, and edged Roger Williams by a 148-143 decision.

In the 200 medley relay, the group of Jordan McMillan (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago), Daniel Forsythe (East Providence, R.I.), Erik Jensen (Hainesport, N.J.), and Luke Zonghetti (Tolland, Conn.) kicked off the meet by finishing second with a 1:39.75.

James Chan (Hong Kong) produced a 1:56.24 time in 200 fly to claim the top spot and was also the top finisher in 200 free with a 1:45.36, closely followed by his brother Jonathan Chan's (Hong Kong) runner-up time of 1:45.59 time.  He also was victorious in the 100 fly in 51.50.

Jonthan Chan had the fastest time in the 100 free with a 48.70 and was also second in the 200 IM following a swim of 2:00.52, while McMillan placed second in 100 backstroke with a 54.67 and later tallied a 2:05.85 in the 200 back. 

Jensen finished third in 1,000 freestyle after touching 10:23.92 and placed second in the 500 free following his 4:59.75.   Zonghetti was the Pride's top finisher in 50 free at 23.03 and Forsythe swam a 1:03.94 in 100 breast and completed the 200 breast in 2:23.46. 

On the three-meter board, Luca Brashear (Amherst, Mass.) delivered a winning score of 289.80, followed by Sean Andrews (Framingham, Mass.) who took second with a 238.58.  Brashear continued to impress on the one-meter as he turned in a winning score of 276.45, while teammate Kaleb Osborne (Longmeadow, Mass.) was the runner up with a 246.37.

In the final relay, McMillan, James Chan, Forsythe, and Jonanthan Chan clinched the win for the Pride after swimming a 3:13.28 in the 400 free relay. 

Springfield will compete again on Sunday as it travels to Middlebury for a 1 pm showdown.
