Castleton, Vt. - January 30, 2022 - In a battle between a pair of nationally-ranked programs, the Springfield College wrestling program was downed by Castleton, 43-3, on Sunday afternoon. 

The Spartans entered the dual ranked No. 24 in the latest NWCA National Rankings, while the Pride checked in at No. 28.  It marked the second time the two teams had competed in the last week, as Castleton had previously edged Springfield, 19-13, in the NEWA Dual Championship third-place match. 

Starting the match off at 157 pounds, the hosts picked up a pair of wins by decision before stringing together three pinfalls and benefitting from an injury default and forfeit to storm out to a 33-0 advantage.  A major decision at 133 and another decision at 141 allowed the Spartans to win nine-consecutive bouts before Chase Parrott (Stamford, Conn.) came through with a 4-1 decision at 149 for the Pride. 

Springfield will return to Alden Street to take on Norwich on Friday night in the Field House at 6 pm.
