Springfield, Mass. - October 11, 2022 - The Springfield College men's tennis team picked up another victory on Tuesday as it knocked off Colby-Sawyer, 6-3, at Appleton Courts.
James Foley (Fair Haven, N.J.) and Marc Villanueva Abad (Morelia, México) cruised to an 8-0 win at the No. 3 spot in doubles and Mike Kendrick (Watervliet, N.Y.) and Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) followed with an 8-4 win as the Pride took a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.
After Colby-Sawyer knotted the match up at 2-2 after picking up a the first singles victory, Villanueva responded with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3. Colby-Sawyer answered with a win at the No. 2 spot, only to have Ethan Gomulka (San Bernardino, Calif.) respond with a 6-2, 6-7, 7-5 win at No. 4 to give the Pride the lead for good. Mateusz Czajka (Linkoping, Sweden) clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 and Zach Taub (New Windsor, N.Y.) sealed the victory following his 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 5.
Springfield will play wrap up the fall season on Friday when it hosts St. Joseph at 3:00 pm.
