Springfield, Mass. - October 11, 2022 - In its final match of the first semester, the Springfield College women's tennis team prevailed against Colby-Sawyer, 8-1, on Tuesday afternoon on Appleton Courts.
Springfield earned a pair of wins in doubles play, with Gabby Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.) and Ramida Manataweewat (Thailand, Bangkok) collecting an 8-4 win at the top spot and Emma Aberle (West Warren, Mass.) and Taylor Suozzo (Bedford, N.H.) teamming up for an 8-5 victory at the No. 2 position.
All six singles matches went the distance, with the Pride grinding out victories in all of them en route to the non-conference win. Manataweewat was first off the court as she rallied for a 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 2 before Suozzo bounced back after a 7-5 loss in the opening set for a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 4.
Veronica Fulgieri (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) delivered a 7-6(5), 5-7, 7-5 victory at No. 3 and Heaney-Secord added a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 triumph at No. 1. Aberle then rallied for a 2-6, 7-5, 10-4 win at No. 5 and Kelly McGoldrick (Monroe, N.Y.) rounded out the match with a thrilling 6-3, 2-6, 12-10 win at No. 6.
