Box Score Springfield, Mass. - October 18, 2022 - The Springfield College field hockey team raced past visiting Mount Holyoke, 4-0, as it delivered a critical New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory on Tuesday evening.
Springfield has now produced consecutive conference shutout wins to move to 6-8 while evening its conference record to 3-3. Mount Holyoke dropped to 3-9 and remains winless in the conference at 0-6.
For the game, Springfield owned a 27-6 advantage in shots, including a 15-2 cushion in the second half, and held a slight 4-3 edge in penalty corners. Remy Niland (Marshfield, Mass.) was credited with her fourth shutout of the season as she posted four saves.
After a scoreless first quarter, Springfield broke through in the 23rd minute as Emma McLaughlin (Norwalk, Conn.) stepped up a buried a penalty stroke opportunity to give the Pride a 1-0 advantage. Springfield was able to double its cushion in the waning moments of the first half as Camryn Morano (Middleboro, Mass.) and Grace Levansavich (Auburn, Mass.) connected on a two-person game on the right wing, with Levansavich ripping her bid into the left corner of the cage with 36 seconds left on the clock.
The Pride added another goal in the third quarter less than a minute into the frame. After Maddy Dunne (Clifton Park, N.Y.) had her initial shot saved, McLaughlin would pick the rebound out of midair and slap in her second marker of the game to give the hosts a 3-0 edge. Just 50 seconds into the fourth quarter, Levansavich would enter a centering pass to Audrey Bresciano (Greenfield, Mass.), who made no mistake as she pumped in a strike all alone on the doorstep to close out the scoring.
Springfield remains home this weekend and hosts Smith at 12 pm on Saturday.
